Danny Minnick is a Seattle born, LA-based ex-professional skateboarder turned artist. Minnick found his love for making art after his accident in 2010, when he tore his Achilles tendon while being a stunt double for Shaun White during a video game production. Minnick is just one of the many pro skaters turned artists – he is right up there with Mark Gonzales, Ed Templeton, Chad Muska, Neil Blender, etc.

All of these guys are a source of inspiration for Minnick, along with arts biggest – Basquiat and Keith Haring.

“Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.” – Andy Warhol

All the best art comes from the heart.

“I’m afraid that if you look at a thing long enough, it loses all of its meaning.” – Andy Warhol

If you don’t bother looking you’ll never know.

“I love Los Angeles, and I love Hollywood. They’re beautiful. Everybody’s plastic, but I love plastic. I want to be plastic.” -Andy Warhol

Plastic is a biohazard choking California’s oceans; the repetition and production of overblown art and the over-packaged product is a cultural disgrace.

“I look at a lot of artists. I’m inspired by – I suppose I shouldn’t say ‚inspired,‘ but it’s not really influenced. I am inspired. Art comes from art.” – Cy Twombly

Both influence and inspiration are a force for good; they indicate an artists hunger to understand a language and their need to build on the conversation, whereas plagiarism is a lazy waste of potential.

“I love the gallery, the arena of representation. It’s a commercial world, and morality is based generally around economics, and that’s taking place in the art gallery.” – Jeff Koons

The „Gallery“ as we know it is a tired and forlorn business model; an unnecessary and clumsy vehicle to connect collectors with artists.

“Art to me is a humanitarian act and I believe that there is a responsibility that art should somehow be able to effect mankind, to make the word a better place.” – Jeff Koons

I believe art is a selfish journey occasionally shared.

“In most cases, I don’t know how much, I cannot say if it’s ninety nine percent or eighty percent, but the problem with incestuous relationships is that they often come from frustration. And from need of power.”
- Gaspar Noe

Incestuous relationships are a grubby substitute for love.

“The hateful reviews are very funny. And sometimes you can enjoy a hateful review much more than a good review.”
- Gaspar Noe

A review is a review, you got noticed!

“True success is figuring out your life and career so you never have to be around jerks.”
- John Waters

Unless you’re a jerk.

“Our society can no longer tolerate ugliness. You see that in cars, sofas and women. [But] ugliness also has a right to exist.”
- Rem Koolhaas

Ugliness is an affectation saved by our, “Cars, sofas and women.”

“In the end, there will be little else for us to do but shop.” – Rem Koolhaas

Not cool Kool’hass.

“I refuse to accept other people’s ideas of happiness for me. As if there’s a ‚one size fits all‘ standard for happiness.”
- Kanye West

Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet.

“People always say that you can’t please everybody. I think that’s a cop-out. Why not attempt it? ‚Cause think of all the people you will please if you try.”
- Kanye West

Very many.

“I make a lot of money and I’m worth every cent.” – Naomi Campbell

50 percent.

“I just want one day off when I can go swimming and eat ice cream and look at rainbows.”
- Mariah Carey

Claim the day!
